How it all started...
Joined Chargebee as the 43rd employee in 2015. Back then Chargebee was a startup with just 50 people in total.
When I left Chargebee in 2020, the design team had grown to 30+ people, and the overall company strength was 600+ in 3 geographical locations.
The design foundations I had set up from 2015 for myself and the company were fundamental to the growth of the team and the company and are still used today by the entire design team. I had also contributed to the delivery of top quality designs, like a design system, but also fully participated and led the growth of the team, design processes and tools. During the early days I was working on every design deliveries like... Websites, Sales and Marketing collaterals, Social media, Blog and web Illustrations graphics, Branding, Design Ops, etc.
Some of my Key Contributions at Chargebee
Chargebee Branding
Apart from handling few product design and marketing related items, we both were continuously working on the rebranding of the logo.

We were engaged in rebranding the Logo for more than 8 months. Predominant of my time went in exploring multiple options, derived from the feedback I got from my manager and the stakeholders. I was also working on establishing the design guidelines based on the branding direction we had.
Hours of discussions, getting feedback from the entire org. We displayed all our explorations on a wall, also a sticky notes which helped everyone to share their thoughts and vote for their favourite one. This was the activity which made us to get close to everyone. People started asking us on when is the next iteration.
We could also see our Founders were happy on how the rebranding was progressing. Which enabled us to gain the kind of trust and stake which helped us to execute things faster.
Paul von Excite helped us with the Chargebeeās Logotype. Long sessions, translating stakeholders and our thought-process in getting the suitable Logotype was an interesting part of this activity.
Chargebeeās Leap UI
The Leap UI was built after understanding the product for so many years, and iterating on the Interfaces, now we have a solid understanding of what we need to build, and give seamless experience to our users.
We also had many customer feedback sessions over the years to understand users needs and arrived at usable solutions.
Modal Box System
Initially when we have to align with products priorities, we couldnāt revamp the entire Interface. Hence we decided to revamp the actions which was a whole page load.
Users were frustrated with the experience. So we created a modal box system and moved all the the actions to be performed within a modal box system.
Continuous testing of implemented features using FullStory user recordings, helped us to iterate faster. These implications gave confidence to our Product managers to prioritise revamping actions first, also gave time for them to prioritise customer requirements. We also enabled Engineering time has been used wisely in setting up their tasks, and gave space for them to have a clear roadmap which made our user activities more usable.
Email Notifications
Once we revamped our Actions, we could see good rise in users using our actions module to perform module specific actions, compared to our old UI.
Then we went ahead and revamped our Email Notifications UI. We found that most of our users use our email notifications to alert their customers on every Subscription activities.
We revamped the entire email module based on Industry standards. Also added more new features like customising templates, quick actions, scheduling and more. We also re-wrote the content of all email notifications.
Our next attempt was to change the experience of Chargebeeās Configurations.
This is where I learnt more about creating scalable systems, and how they changed lifeās of our users. Because after dunning, and emails. Configurations is the most frequent feature used by them.
